So far we have talked about Christopher Columbus and why we celebrate Columbus Day.
We have also talked in depth about Martin Luther King Jr. We did an experiment in class regarding how people might have felt during Martin Luther King's time. We divided the class into boys and girls. During the morning the girls were able to have more freedom and were praised more than the boys. At mid-morning we switched and the boys were praised more and had more freedom. The students may have not been able to see the connection to Martin Luther King, but they were still able to recognize how hard and mean it was to separate the two.
In the upcoming weeks we will be discussing Veteran's Day, Christmas, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, and President's Day.
The students are preparing a Power Point Presentation of their favorite Holiday. When the projects are completed we will be inviting family and friends in to view their power points.
